The college grew out of Sichuan Statistics School, which was founded in December 1949 as one of two schools affiliated to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, with a goal to foster cadres for National Statistic System of the People's Republic of China. Wan Li, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 7th National People's Congress, served as the first president of school. In 2001, the college was amalgamated with Chengdu Institute of Meteorology, which was affiliated to China Meteorological Administration, into Chengdu University of Information Technology, and it was officially named as School of Statistics, Chengdu University of Information Technology.
In 2004, we formed one of the first training centers for statistics cadres under direct administration of National Bureau of Statistics, which is one of the four training institutions in the country so far. Two years later, the Key Laboratory for Statistical Information Technology and Data Mining of National Bureau of Statistics was established. In 2011, we also formed one of the first statistics training centers for educational undertakings under direct administration of Ministry of Education. In May 2021, Chinese Governmental Research Center of Statistics was officially unveiled here. In the boosts of seven decades, we have produced more than 60,000 professional technicians and impactful leaders making positive differences in statistical departments of prefectural, municipal, provincial, and national governments. The college was hailed as "the Cradle of Statisticians" by Zhang Sai, when he was the director of the National Bureau of Statistics.
Currently, the college has evolved into a preeminent center for statistical and economic teaching, research, and extension. We host undergraduate and graduate programs, relating Statistics and Economics, with more than 1,200 enrolled students. Four undergraduate majors are Statistics, Economic Statistics, Financial Engineering, and International Economy and Trade, where Statistics and Economic Statistics are approved as National Outstanding Undergraduate Majors by Ministry of Education, and Financial Engineering is approved as Provincial Outstanding Undergraduate Major in Sichuan Province. Three graduate programs are masters in Applied Statistics, Rural development, and Finance.
Besides, here are superior and strategic initiatives institutions. We have six laboratories and research centers, e.g., the Key Laboratory for Statistical Information Technology and Data Mining of National Bureau of Statistics, Chinese Governmental Research Center of Statistics, Sichuan Technology and Economic Statistics Research Center, Sichuan Tourism Statistics Research Base, Laboratory for Statistics System and Method Research, and Statistical Laboratory of Internet Plus Initiative funded by Ministry of Finance of the PRC. We also have one Sichuan Social Science Extension Base for Climate Change and Economic Development and two certificate and training centers, statistics cadres training of National Bureau of Statistics and educational undertakings statistics training of Ministry of Education.
The team recruits 66 full-time faculties and 13 stuffs. There are 16 professors, 21 associate professors, 22 of whom are be qualified advisors for graduate students. More than 40 well-known experts in domestic and from abroad are employed as visiting professors or part-time graduate students’ advisors. The members of our expert team serve as Chief Experts in Major Programs of the National Social Science Fund, Teaching Steering Committee Members of Ministry of Education for Statistics in Colleges and Universities, National Statistical Textbook Editorial Committee Members, Outstanding Experts with Distinguish Contributions in Sichuan Province, and Academic and Technical Leaders and Candidates of Sichuan Province. In addition, they serve as various first-class academic institutions’ vice presidents, secretary-generals, executive directors, and so on.

Comprehensive and Intelligent Simulation laboratory for Economic Operation
Comprehensive and Intelligent Simulation laboratory for Economic Operation is designed to catch the promoted requirements for economic and management talents with a rapid development of Digital Economics. The lab offers experimental projects relevant to various courses, e.g., National Economic Accounting, Securities Investment, Financial Management, Econometrics, International Trade Practice, and builds an intelligent simulation-training platform for students in various majors, e.g., Economic Statistics, Financial Engineering, and International Economy and Trade. Following the concept of “digitalization and contextualization of experiment teaching resources, integration and intelligence of experimental technology and methods, and compound and practical of experiment teaching objectives", this provision effectively improves operation opportunities and project practice abilities for students, as well as keeps the traditional statistics disciplines advantages in School of Statistics.

Statistical Modeling Laboratory in Finance
Statistical Modeling Laboratory in Finance is designed to train highly qualified and application-oriented professionals for Financial Analysis and Risk Management, who can comprehensively apply various methods and tools of financial engineering and be creative, flexible, and well-rounded in confronting and solving financial problems. The lab utilizes traditional advantages of Information Science, Statistics, and Atmospheric Science in Chengdu University of Information Technology, as well as the superior of Provincial Outstanding Undergraduate Major of Financial Engineering in Sichuan Province. It offers a series of professional experiment courses and training projects in Financial Information Analysis mainly in the areas of high dimensional statistical learning, data analysis modeling, vertical and functional data analysis, nonlinear time series and other statistical methods and algorithms. It provides a practical training platform for students to study courses of Financial Data Simulation, Big Data in Finance, and Financial Statistical Analysis, which can effectively improve their operation ability and project practice experience.

Survey Analysis and Data Mining Laboratory
Survey Analysis and Data Mining Laboratory is designed to train highly qualified professionals engaged in scientific inquiry, data processing, data mining, and data analysis, who will fulfil fundamental theories of Mathematics and Statistics, skillfully execute statistic software, and be competent in statistic modeling and analysis using realistic data. The lab meets the demanding laboratory requirement for big data analysis to comprehensively handle industrial applications of data science with related majors in Probability and Mathematical Statistics, Data Mining, Algorisms and Data Structure, and Computer Networks, where the fundamental is computer technique and the core is algorisms for data mining. On the basis of two National Outstanding Undergraduate Majors, Statistics and Economic Statistics, the lab offers experiment courses and training projects relevant to survey analysis and data mining with the mainstream software framework and virtual teaching resources to integrate both the theoretical study and practical training. It provides a practical training platform for students to study courses of Data Analysis Technology, Industrial Big Data, Meteorological Observation Data Analysis, Blockchain Technology, and Social Statistics, which can effectively improve their operation ability and project practice experience.

College Administration
Secretary of college CPC Committee: Jin Ming (Professor, Senior Statistician, Master’s Supervisor)
Ming is responsible for work related to Party construction, ideology and politics, publicity and the united front work, student affairs, Labor Union activities, and career affairs in the college.
Ming successively provided leaderships in Teaching and Research Office of School of Statistics for Data Mining and Business Intelligence, the Budget Division of National Bureau of Statistics (on a temporary duty), School of Statistics, National Economic Comprehensive Statistics Division of Chengdu Statistics Department (on a temporary duty), and college CPC Committee of School of Statistics. He also serves as Director of Chongqing Statistics Society and Director of Sichuan Field Statistics Society. He joined the 2021-2025 memberships of the Undergraduate Teaching Steering Committee of Economics and Trade in Sichuan Universities, the Undergraduate Teaching Steering Committee of Chengdu University of Information Technology, and the National Statistics Vocational Education Teaching Steering Committee.
Ming’s research interests are Administration Statistics and Big Data. He has been sponsoring more than 40 projects, where 8 are provincial and ministerial-level research projects. including 8 provincial or ministerial-level research projects. He published more than 20 journal articles, where eight are from CSSCI index.
Dean and Deputy Party Committee Secretary: Li Yong (Professor, Chief of Professor Committee, Master’s Supervisor)
Yong is responsible for the entire administrative work of the College. He is mainly in charge of finance, faculty construction (personnel), disciplinary development, scientific researches, research institutions establishment, cadre training, and international cooperation.
Yong also serves as executive director of the Chinese Government Statistical Research Center and the chief expert in Major Programs of the National Social Science Fund. He joined the memberships of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Statistics Programs in Higher Education Institutions under the Ministry of Education, a member of the National Statistical Textbook Compilation and Review Committee, Deputy Director of the Sichuan Provincial Statistical Professional Teaching Guidance Committee, and an Education Assessment Monitoring Expert in Chongqing. Additionally, he holds significant positions in various professional societies, including Standing Director of the Chinese Statistical Society, Standing Director and Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Statistical Education Society, Vice President of the China Business Statistics Society, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Data Science and Business Intelligence Society, Standing Director and Secretary-General of the National Economic Statistics Society, and Vice President of the Sichuan Statistical Society. He is on the editorial board of "Statistics and Decision Making" and serves as a review expert for journals such as "Statistical Research" and "Mathematical Statistics and Management." He is also a committee member and review expert for the National Statistical Modeling Competition and the National Market Survey Analysis Competition.
Yong is the principal expert for the major project of the National Social Science Fund titled "Industrial Big Data Measurement Theory and Application Research" (21&ZD153), currently under research. He has led the completion of a general project from the National Social Science Fund titled "Hierarchical Bayesian Methods and Their Application in Haze Detection and Assessment." He has presided over more than ten major and key provincial and ministerial-level projects; managed consulting projects for government and enterprises on over thirty occasions, with results receiving directives from provincial and ministerial leaders and adopted by governments at all levels more than twenty times. He has published over seventy academic papers, with more than forty included in SCI/EI/CSSCI/CSCD; authored eight books and obtained twelve software copyrights. In recent years, he has guided students to win over thirty national awards in competitions such as the National Statistical Modeling Competition, Market Survey Analysis Competition, and innovation and entrepreneurship projects.
Yong’s main research interests are big data for statistical application, government statistics and intelligent social governance, economics and social statistics, Bayesian decision analysis, data science and statistical machine learning, as well as meteorological statistics and high-quality economic development. He teaches courses that are Real Variable Function, Statistical Analysis for Macroeconomics, Economics and Social Statistics, Financial Statistics, Mathematical Economics, Greys Statistics, Measurement and Probability Theory, Introduction to Data Technology Application, and Big Data Analysis and Application.
Vice Dean: Teng Lei (Professor, Ph.D. in Economics, Master’s Supervisor)
Lei is responsible for the development of library resources, international cooperation, library and information databases maintaining.
Lei also serves as member of the China Regional Science Association, member of the Sichuan Regional Economy Association, and director of the Sichuan Finance Society. He has presided over nearly 20 projects including the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences Project, National Key Statistical Research Project, and Ministry of Education's Industry-Education Collaborative Education Project, seven of which are provincial or ministerial level. He has published more than 30 papers in various journals including CSSCI, SSCI, and other journals such as "Statistical Research" and "North American Journal of Economics and Finance." He has authored three monographs and textbooks. He undertook short-term study visits to San Diego State University in the USA and Singapore Polytechnic in 2015 and 2018, respectively, and served a temporary position at the National Bureau of Statistics from 2019 to 2020. He has received awards such as Chengdu Information Engineering University's Young Teacher Teaching Award, Advanced Individual in Three Educations, and Second Prize for Teaching Achievements.
Vice Dean: Fan Qiaoxi (Professor, Master’s Supervisor)
Qiaoxi is responsible for graduate student admissions, teaching affairs and innovation, disciplines and curriculum development, laboratory and research institutions management, and departments’ development.
Qiaoxi is also selected as a reserve candidate for the Sichuan Provincial Academic and Technical Leaders, also serves as the Vice Secretary-General of the Sichuan Statistical Society, Executive Director and Secretary-General of the Chengdu Statistical Society, and a member of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Statistics Programs in Sichuan Province. Presided over the completion of one National Social Science Fund project, seven provincial and ministerial-level projects, and multiple horizontal projects; received one provincial scientific research award, second prize in provincial teaching achievement awards, and third prize. Published more than 40 academic papers in journals such as "Statistics and Decision Making," "Geographical Research," "Rural Economy," "Survey World," etc., authored two academic monographs, and edited three textbooks as chief editor or co-editor. Honored with the first "Outstanding Teacher" award, the fifth "Young Teachers’ Teaching Award," and the first "Teaching Quality Award" from Chengdu Information Engineering University.
Qiaoxi’s main research interests are socio-economic statistical analysis, government statistics, as well as rural economic statistics and analysis.

Program Mission:
This program is designed to produce well-qualified statistical talents with both political integrity and professional competence. Statistics is the science of learning from data. It is concerned with the development of theory and with the application of that theory to the collection, analysis, and interpretation of quantitative information. In addition, students will gain fulfill of Math knowledge and computers techniques. Because statistics is important in many scholarly disciplines, a degree in statistics provides the opportunity to enter not only the statistics profession but also many other fields which make extensive use of statistics. The areas of application include agriculture, the biological sciences, engineering, the physical sciences, the social sciences, education, business, and home economics, among others. Statistics also promises to be important in emerging endeavors such as pollution and environmental research, energy utilization, and health-care administration.
Careers in government, industry, and education, involving the disciplines previously mentioned, are open to the statistics graduate. In government and industry, a statistician usually serves as a researcher or as a consultant to research scientists and decision-makers. In education, of course, the teaching function is added to those of research and consultation.

Program Mission:
This program promotes interdisciplinary knowledge integration of "Economic Statistics, Information Technology, and Government Statistics" to cultivate well qualified talents, who will meet the requirements of statistical work, grasp fundamental theories of Mathematics and Economics, and be able to integrated specialized theories and methods of Economic Statistics. Students should be flexible and competent to apply information technologies, e.g., experimental design, statistical inquiry, data processing, and statistical analysis, to propose, analyze and solve scientific problems. Under the concept of developing "new liberal arts", this program explores the answers for "What kind, how and for whom to educate students”, adhering to the mission of producing morality and cultivating talents for "serving the country, the party and the people".

This program has a long history, excellent teachers, and a strong professional platform.
①It promotes interdisciplinary knowledge integration of "Economic Statistics, Information Technology, and Government Statistics" to cultivate well qualified talents

③It is the only program that provides courses related to Government Statistics in China, which starts from 2007 and keeps the distinctive diversity.
④It recruits a sophisticated teaching team of 21 full-time teachers, where 75% of them are professors and 76% of them are holding M.S. and Ph.D. Degrees. The team members have engaged in teaching and researches for many years and they have gained plentiful awards and honors, e.g., won one Second Prize, two Third Prizes of Sichuan Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, one honor of Outstanding Expert with Distinguish Contributions in Sichuan Province, and one honor of Academic and Technical Leaders and Candidates of Sichuan Province. In addition, the team won more than 50 national and provincial awards as student advisors in competitions.
⑤It is complemented by master programs in Applied Economics and Statistics and professional degree programs in Applied Statistics, which is also supplemented by sufficient laboratories, training centers and research centers.
