Invited by the School of Statistics at Chengdu University of Information Technology, Professor Wu Xizhi, a renowned expert in statistics and a professor at Renmin University of China, delivered two academic lectures on May 22nd and 23rd at the L1213 lecture hall on the Longquan campus of our university. The lectures were titled "Thoughts on Problem-Driven Research" and "Statistics and Machine Learning". Professor Li Yong, the dean of the School of Statistics, presided over the lecture, and some teachers and students from the college attended the event.
At the thematic presentation on "What Comes to Mind from Problem-Driven Approach", Professor Wu elaborated on the importance and application scenarios of statistics in data analysis. He also explained the significance of statistics in modern scientific research with his profound academic background and practical experience.
At the keynote speech on "Statistics and Machine Learning", Professor Wu explained how traditional statistics has shifted towards the cutting-edge field of machine learning. He provided a detailed introduction to the four main learning modes of machine learning: supervised learning, unsupervised learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning. At the same time, he also demonstrated through practical cases how machine learning can drive technological progress and solve complex problems.

During the two lectures, Professor Wu also shared his successful experiences in teaching and research. He encouraged the students to actively explore the frontier fields of statistics and machine learning, laying a solid foundation for their future career development. Professor Wu's lectures were visionary, profound, rich in examples and fascinating, which earned warm applause from the teachers and students present.

This series of reports greatly broadened the horizons of teachers and students in the learning world, providing them with valuable knowledge.
